Godspell is a musical composed by Stephen Schwartz in 1971, which features characters dressed in hippie outfits who sing and act out parables from The Gospel of Matthew.
The song they refer to is "You're So Vain", which was released in November 1972, and is about a self-absorbed person whom Simon asserts "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you."
